Gariece Kayon McPherson (born May 14, 1989, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine) is a Jamaica National footballer and the current goalkeeper for Portmore United F.C. team. He is married with two daughters and a son. He currently resides in Kingston.

Even with a tall frame of 6'1", Gariece's prowess is evident in the way he dominates the goal. Having been groomed for the game since the age of seven, Gariece has enjoyed many years of success within the parish league, national premier league and representing the national teams, including the Reggae Boyz.

Career

Gariece has been a member of Portmore United F.C. since the age of fourteen. During his first year with Portmore he was called on to keep for the senior team against Rivoli United in a Wray and Nephew Premier League game. Nerves may have been a factor in Rivoli's scoring against him in the first half of the game, but it was all Gariece needed to boost his confidence to deliver an outstanding performance for the remainder of the game.

During his tenure, he has twice earned the club's coveted Goalkeeper of the year award. He has captained the U-21 team several times and proves to be a worthy leader. In the 2010-2011 Digicel Premier League (DPL) tournament Gariece garnered an average of 25 saves per game. He is now the starting goalkeeper for the senior team in the National Premier League .[1] [2]

More recently the 2011-2012 Red Stripe National Premier League saw some outstanding performances from the young McPherson. [3] So much so, Portmore United captured the title as the first end of round winners, Monday November 21st, 2011. [4]

International career

Gariece, or "Skipper" to his team mates, was recruited for the Jamaica National U-23 Olympic qualifying team to the Suriname games, August 2011. He also played in the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying matches of 2009.[5] The team did not qualify. This, however was not his first appearance representing the National side.[6] He has kept for both the U-20 and U-17 teams for prior tournaments. [7] His first call up however to the National Reggae Boyz Senior squad came in October of 2011 when the Jamaicans played an international friendly against their CONCACAF counterparts, Honduras. [8] Gariece was named in the squad after a grueling three week long training camp. [9] The Boyz went down 2-1.
